Example of different types of E-Commerce
Types of E-Commerce:
1. Business-to-Consumer (B2C)
Business-to-consumer (B2C) is the
most prevalent model where you sell to end users. Most online stores you come
across on the internet, from clothing brands to food supplies, grocery markets
and even entertainment businesses (like Netflix or YouTube), follow this model.
You don’t need to spend big on educating the audience about your product as they are lower-value items compared to B2B products. Your customers don’t research too long before making the purchase, leading to a shorter sales cycle and lower average order value.
B2C is a straightforward approach focusing on driving sales
through adding value to your products or services. You don’t need hefty
investments to convince and train customers.(Roy, 2022)

2. Business-to-Business (B2B)
Business-to Business (B2B) e-commerce model describes electronic transactions between
businesses such as between manufacturer and wholesaler. The major factors in
increasing the acceptance of B2B e-commerce are Internet and dependence of many
business operations upon other businesses for supplying raw materials,
utilities and services. It is very fast developing segment in e-commerce.
Company can check and updates purchase orders, invoices, inventory and shipping
status directly through the Internet.(Roy, 2022)
3. Consumer-to-Consumer (C2C)
Consumer-to-Consumer
(C2C) e-commerce is a business model that facilitates
the transactions of product and services between two consumers. In this
e-commerce model, consumers sell product and services directly to other
consumers using Internet
and Web technologies. An individual customer uses classified
advertisements to advertise or promote different products and services on web
or through online auction sites.
E-Commerce Examples : eBay.com, quicker.com, craigslist.org, gittigidiyor.com. It entails lower cost for both buyer and seller customers. Using this e-commerce model, customers can also advertise and sell their products and services to other employees over organizational Intranet.(Roy, 2022)
4. Business-to-Government (B2G)
A few businesses specialize as contractors providing goods and services to government entities and public agencies. The agencies typically issue requests for proposals (RFP), and B2G (business-to-government) businesses bid on the project. These highly specialized organizations adhere to strict product or service criteria that government agencies define.
It’s a more secure business model because it’s
contractual and has a steady revenue source. But the bureaucratic nature of
public agencies can lead to unnecessary delays and other unforeseen
circumstances.(Roy, 2022)
5. Consumer-to-Business (C2B)
C2B businesses allow
individuals to sell goods and services to companies. In this ecommerce model, a
site might enable customers to post the work they want to be completed and have
businesses bid for the opportunity. Affiliate marketing services would also be
considered C2B.
The C2B ecommerce model’s competitive
edge is in pricing for goods and services. This approach gives
consumers the power to name their prices or have businesses directly compete to
meet their needs.(Bigcommerce, 2023)
